GiftNavFAQ

Frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about using GiftNav: whether you need an account, how gifts are selected, affiliate links, personalization, and recipient data.

Do I need an account to use GiftNav?

No. You can begin browsing, reacting to gifts, and building a temporary recipient profile or GiftBoard without creating an account. An account lets you preserve profiles, boards, occasions, and shopping history across devices and visits.

Does GiftNav sell products?

GiftNav helps you discover and compare gift ideas. When you decide what you want, you purchase from the retailer or brand you choose.

How are gifts selected?

GiftNav combines catalogue research, reputable sources, product and retailer information, trend signals, editorial judgment, and the recipient context you provide. The goal is to find the right few ideas, not create the longest list.

Does GiftNav use affiliate links?

Some links may be affiliate links, which means GiftNav may receive compensation after a qualifying purchase. Affiliate relationships do not determine whether a product belongs in the catalogue or whether it fits a recipient.

How does personalization work?

GiftNav uses the information you choose to provide — such as interests, life stage, personality, occasion, budget, and reactions while shopping — to rank and explain ideas. Profiling questions remain optional, and reactions never gate access to additional questions.

Can I delete or change recipient information?

Yes. Registered shoppers should be able to review, correct, and delete recipient profiles and boards. Temporary anonymous data should expire according to the published privacy and retention rules.

Why might my recommendations not be great yet?

GiftNav ranks real products from our catalogue against what we know about a recipient -- their interests, life stage, personality, and more. Some interest categories, especially very specific or newer ones, don’t have many matching products in the catalogue yet, so recommendations there can feel thin or generic for now.

The more detail you add about a recipient -- through the braindump or the profile fields -- the better GiftNav can narrow in. But we can’t recommend a product that genuinely isn’t in the catalogue for that interest yet. If a specific interest comes up thin, trying a broader related category (or checking back later as we keep expanding the catalogue) usually helps.
